Affectionately known as 'Two Emma Toc Writtle' 2MT commenced regular broadcasts on 14th February 1922 from an ex-army Marconi hut in Lawford Lane, on the outskirts of Chelmsford. Led by the irrepressible Captain Peter Eckersley, the gifted team of Marconi engineers went on to play major roles in the Marconi company & the newly formed BBC. 2MT transmitted every Tuesday evening for 11 months, & became the forerunner of many light entertainment radio programmes which followed.
